Do you want to start a podcast? Do you want to produce content that generates a following that grows and grows? At ModPod, we believe good sounding audio is a baseline requirement to produce podcasts that find favor with new listeners.
Members of our Production team, Dan Nelson and Josh Blood, host a podcast called Show Me Your Setup. In Episode 7, Dan and Josh show their audio recording setups and touch on the most important podcast equipment to produce clean audio that is pleasant to listen to. The goal is to draw listeners in with great audio rather than push them away with bad sound.
The Episode begins with each host describing his specific signal chain, beginning with his voice and finishing at his computer. Along the way, Dan and Josh discuss different microphone types, pop filters to eliminate plosives, boom arms for proper mic placement, shock mounts to lessen desk and floor thumps, and troubleshooting tips. They answer the question, should you record your podcast using your webcam’s built in microphone?
These audio recording tips apply not just to podcast recording, but anytime you meet with your co-workers in a videoconference environment. You can apply these audio techniques as well as add addition lighting so you’ll not only sound good, but you’ll look good too!
With Show Me Your Setup Episode 7’s valuable tips, you’ll learn how to record great sounding audio. Plus, you can apply what you learned in the Episode to look and sound great in all your virtual meetings.
